Friends of Sanford Stud Farm Open House Reception

The Friends of Sanford Stud Farm is hosting the first ever Open House Reception at the Broodmare Barn. The reception, a catered event, will feature assorted hors d'oeuvres and wine. Additionally, Friends of Sanford Stud Farms memorabilia and a silent auction will be available for Friends and guests to pursue. Proceeds from the benefit event are earmarked for continuation of repairs to the facility, specifically interior and exterior painting and electrical work. Considered by some as a "tad upscale in nature", dress is business casual.

The reception is scheduled to run from 6pm - 9pm. Donation: Members $25, guests $35. Parking will be available at the NBT Bank in Hannaford plaza. A shuttle trolley, courtesy of Just Horsin Around Trolley Service of Saratoga Springs, will porvide transportation between the bank and the reception.

The Friends of Sanford Stud Farm will host their 4th annual Open house at the Broodmare Barn, centerpiece of the former majestic Sanford Stud Farm, on Route 30 on September 11th from 11 am - 3 pm.

As in past years, the day will feature area vendors, crafters, and artisans, food and entertainment, as well as tours of the historic Broodmare Barn, which has been the focus of extensive restoration work over the past 3 years. Additionally, the ever popular Morgan Horses of Trinity Farms will greet visitors at the ca. 1870's facility. Admission to the Open House on Saturday is Free.

"Behind the Ropes" Architecture Tour

Ron Burch, curator of the NYS Museum art and architecture collections, and Scott G. Haefner, site manager of Old Fort Johnson, will conduct a "behind the ropes" tour of Old Fort Johnson. Focusing on the building's architecture rather than the collections of the Montgomery County Historical Society headquartered at Fort Johnson, the presentation will highlight the design, contruction, and subsequent modifications to what is arguably the first "great House" west of Schenectady, built in 1749. The 13th annual senior picnic sponsored by Montgomery County Office for Aging, Inc. is scheduled for Fri., Sept. 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Fonda Fairgrounds.

Big Band and Polka music will be provided by Mike Wancewicz. Exhibitors will have information about their services and products. Bingo with prizes is on the agenda for the morning. Lunch will be served at noon. Adults aged 60 and older are invited to attend this event.

In an effort to assist Montgomery County senior citizens during the upcoming holiday season, the OFA will have boxes to collect non-perishable food items at the picnic. If you donate a non-perishable food item or make a cash donation, your name will be included in a special prize drawing.

8th Annual MCSPCA Dog Walk and Pet Party

The 8th Annual Montgomery County SPCA Dog Walk and Pet Party, benefiting the MCSPCA New Shelter Building Fund, will again be held at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam. Admission is by donation. Dog Walk registration begins at 11am, with prizes for the most donations collected! Dog-less supporters are encouraged to walk also!
