Rising from the Sea: The Art of Jay Hall Connaway opens at the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie on Aug 22, 2011 and runs at the Museum until May 27, 2012

A student of the sea, sky and mountains Jay Connaway (1893-1970) painted in an era marked by the economic and social upheaval of WWI, WWII, and the Great Depression. This exhibition includes paintings from Connaway from the Arkell Museum and Arkell Foundation collections and two works from a private collection. Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to see paintings by three of Connaway's contemporaries.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs will host a Franciscan “Day with Mary” with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate on Sat. May 12, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. A day of instruction, devotion and intercession based on the message given at Fatima in 1917. Morning DVD in the Visitor Center followed by presentation in the Coliseum, 11:30 Mass in Coliseum in be the Extraordinatry form, the Tridentine Latin Rite. It will be followed by procession and May Crowning. Brown bag lunch. Afternoon session in the Coliseum: Holy Hour, Enrollment in the Brown Scapular and Conferment of the Miraculous Medal. Good will offering.

American Red Cross Meets in Schoharie

The American Red Cross will hold a meeting for local volunteers in Fulton, Montgomery, or Schoharie counties and anyone that wishes to volunteer on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 6:30pm in Room 360 of the Schoharie County Office Building, 284 Main St, Schoharie, NY 12157. Volunteers are encouraged to bring stories from recent responses, blood drives, or activities to share with the group as well as any questions that they may have. We will share the latest news from Albany on training opportunities and operations. We will review changes to DAT procedures and review ideas on a possible joint shelter simulation involving the Red Cross, county emergency management, and the HAM groups.

at the Visitor Center.

Presenter: Father Rendell Torres

Topic: "Marian Consecration and Love for the Eucharist."

This presentation will discuss how consecration to Christ through His Mother leads to a greater love of her Son and of His Real Presence in the Eucharist.

The day includes faith sharing, fellowship, pot luck lunch, Confessions, 1:30 Mass.

Bring a pot luck item to share. Good will offering. Reservations are not needed.

The show will give artists from numerous NYSARC Chapters the opportunity to showcase their best work and will include an opening night reception on Friday May 18, 2012 in celebration of their talents. The show will be open Friday, May 18th from 5-7 pm (please call 954-3258 to RSVP for Friday's event) and will be open all day Saturday, May 19th from 11am-5pm.

Farm to Table Day is a free educational event for all ages. It was established to educate the community about all facets of agricultural and to see how agriculture affects our every day lives. This event will provide educational programs, demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages. Approximately 30 vendors will participate with educational stations covering agricultural products like honey, dairy, beef and apples. There will be opportunities to do everything from making a bee's wax candle, millking a cow by hand, building a bird house, draft horse demonstrations or watching farm equipment be used.

Free Admission history and creativity comes together as local area business, designers, organizations and indiividuals have crafted festive wreaths for all season that will decorate Amsterdam City Hall. The Wreaths will be available for silent auction bidding with all proceeds to benefit the Old fort Johnson Flood Recovery Fund for the restoration of this treasured Mohawk Valley Historic site.

Wreaths will be on display weekdays during normal City Hall business hours from 8am to 4pm. You can bid on your favorite one until Dec.6th. Winning bidders will be able to pick up their Wreaths on Saturday, Dec.10th Come see Amsterdam City Hall as you've never seen it before.

Blessing for Veterans at all Memorial Day Weekend Masses

There will be a blessing for Veterans at all Memorial Day weekend Masses in the Coliseum at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs. Vigil Mass on Saturday, May 26 is at 4 p.m., Sunday Masses on May 27 are at 9 & 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Monday, May 28 at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
